Hello Dolly.

Jonny is in Monterrey, Mexico this week for work.  The office there is moving and he is doing some of the technical/IT work.  He was supposed to leave today, but because of hurricane Dolly the bosses decided to send the group on Wedensday in case the airports ended up closing due to weather.  The hurricane was supposed to make landfall this morning and work its way east towards Monterrey.  I’m not sure how I feel about the company sending them into the path of a hurricane on purpose.  Thankfully, Monterrey is pretty far inland so they are only expecting rain and a big storm – no hurricane winds or flooding.

So I talked to Jonny Wed. morning and he told me he was coming home from work to pack and get ready to leave in a few hours.  Needless to say, the day was a whirlwind and not at all what I had planned.  But we got all the laundry, packing and errands done so we could get him to LAX and safely to Mexico.  He made it to Mexico fine, and the hurricane turned north so there is even less rain than expected.  Hopefully the rest of his trip goes smoothly (but I’ll still say a little prayer that there are no unexpected hurricane after effects).

Even though daddy is not here, the boys are excited for the trip because they get to talk to daddy on the phone every day.  And it doesn’t hurt that Gama and aunt Kiwi are coming to visit while daddy is gone.  So it’s like a double bonus for them.

Take me out to the ballgame (part of a busy weekend).

Filed under: Evan, Jonny, Seth — kimberly @ 7:05

The first leg of the busy weekend was the Angels baseball game.  It was Mormon night, which our family has attended each summer for about 5 years.  Grandma and Papa always get tickets for us, and it’s a pretty good time.  I was a little tired so I chose to sit this one out while Jonny took the boys with Grandma and Papa.  The boys were so excited about going to the game and were talkiing about it all day.  Evan asked me which team we wanted to win, so I told him to cheer for the Angels.  He didn’t want them to win though.  We had watched UC Irvine play on TV in the College World Series earlier in the week so Evan said he was going to cheer for the Anteaters instead of the Angels.  After trying to explain the difference between college and professional sports and that UCI wasn’t playing that night, he said he would cheer for the Anteaters anyway.  So he did – whenever people cheered for the Angels, he said “Go Anteaters.”

Of course, the boys were most looking forward to the Friday Night Fireworks after the game.  Seth kept saying “fireworks” in this really low, slow voice.  It was pretty cute.  Although when it got to that point he got scared and sat curled up in Papa’s lap most of the time, only peeking out a few times to see the fireworks.  Evan, on the other hand, loved them.  He told me about the different colors and shapes the fireworks had.

A very busy weekend.

This weekend turned out to be an unusually busy one for our family.  Friday night Jonny and the boys went with Grandma and Papa to Mormon Night at Angel Stadium.  I decided to stay home and rest up a little after a long and tiring week, but it was a late night for the rest of them.  However, I was awake bright and early on Saturnday morning filling up water balloons for some Primary games at the ward activity that morning.  The ward had a 5k and pancake breastfast which sounded like fun, but because of the late night and busy day ahead we weren’t able to stay.  So after dropping off the water balloons, I got dressed and went to my cousin Holly’s baby shower (well, she’s actually Jonny’s cousin’s wife, but it’s all in the family, you know).  Then I came home, ate some lunch, sat down for a few minutes and then went to my sister’s graduation.  Jonny did a great job watching the boys alone most of the day, which is something he doesn’t have to do very often.  After getting home very late from the graduation, I woke up early Sunday and couldn’t get back to sleep.  Jonny and Seth were up early too, so another day began.  We spent the morning trying to rest as much as possible and practice for Evan’s first primary talk.  He had to give a talk about the temple, which was wonderful.  He was really cute and did a great job.  Grandma, Papa and Aunt Melanie even came to church with us so they could see it.  After church we headed to Grandma’s house for a delicious Father’s Day dinner.  So we are finally home, the boys fell asleep pretty quickly, and Jonny and I are exhausted and ready for some rest.

Happy Father’s Day.

Happy Father’s Day to a wonderful dad.  You take such great care of the kids, and they simply adore you.  You mean more to us than I think you realize.  We love you.

Zot Zot Zot, part 2

Filed under: Jonny, Kimberly — kimberly @ 10:11

Well, depsite all common sense, #5 seed UCI has made it to the finals of the Big West Tournament tonight.  They had a dramatic 55-50 win last night against #1 seed UC Santa Barbara.  Wow, what a stunner.  So tonight they take on #3 seed Cal State Fullerton in the final (who beat #2 seed CSU Northridge to get to the final).  UCI just lost to CSUF a couple weeks ago, so we’ll see what happens, but….if they win, UC Irvine will get their first ever trip to the NCAA tournament.  Talk about March Madness!  Jonny sure wishes he was going to the game tonight.

Go Eaters!!! Zot Zot Zot!

More tailgaiting.

So after we got home from the Santa Breakfast, Jonny and I went to the BYU vs. SDSU football game while Aunt Kiwi watched the boys.  The game was originally scheduled for October, but due to the wildfires at the time and the fact that Qualcomm stadium was being used as an emergency shelter, they postponed the game.  We went with Jonny’s brother and cousin and their wives.  We had a great tailgate.  The teryaki blue cheese burgers were so YUMMY! (thanks J).  And although it did rain on us a few times, we were able to enjoy a delicious lunch.  And the best part, BYU won the game (of course!), which I knew was going to happen because we saw a double rainbow over the field before the game.  That’s a sure sign, right?  I think there were more BYU fans at the game than San Diego fans.  It was pretty funny, actually.  And they had some cool parachuters come in during half time, which was fun to watch.  With the wind and rain, it made their efforts even more amazing.

Some pics of us with our “peeps.”

A little football fun before the game.

Our good luck rainbows (although it may be a little hard to see both in this pic)

Christmas already?

Have I mentioned that I can’t believe Christmas is on it’s way already?  Well, having a full week after Thanksgiving doesn’t help anything in our house.  While the rest of the world is decorating and gearing up, we can’t mention the “C” word in our house yet.  Jonny has a pet peeve about anything Christmas before December 1st.  So all the lights and garland and music we see at the stores gets a eye roll or some other negative “I can’t believe this” reaction.  But I can be patient.  I actually think it’s kind of funny.  And I generally agree that all the Christmas stuff goes up a little too early most of the time (although I’m OK with everything as soon as Thanksgiving is over – I just hate to see Christmas deco in the stores during Halloween).  But this weekend I’ll definitely start getting everything out.  Well, after we see BYU beat San Deigo State at their football game on Saturday.  Go Cougars!

Hide and Seek.

Filed under: Evan, Jonny, Seth — kimberly @ 21:43

Jonny was playing hide and seek with the boys tonight and they were just being too cute.  Evan was leaning up against the sliding door and covering his eyes to count.  Seth caught sight of that and decided he wanted to do it too (that whole monkey see, monkey do thing again…).  So Evan would count to 10 then say “ready or not, here I come.”  Seth was counting along with Evan – he is actually really good at counting to three and is getting better at four and five.  It’s cute to hear his baby talk turning into real words (at least I can understand more and more of them, even if no one else can).  They would count and then run upstairs to find daddy.  The boys were just adorable counting together so I had to snap a couple pictures.

Viva Las Vegas!

Filed under: Jonny, Kimberly — kimberly @ 13:18

As I mentioned, Jonny and I went on vacation to celebrate the 10 year wedding anniversary we had this past summer.  It was our first time away since Seth was born, so it was great to get some relaxation time.  Jonny did a great job planning the whole trip.  We took the boys to Gamma’s house on Sunday and then drove to Las Vegas early Monday morning.  We had a great week.  We stayed at the Mandalay Bay and it was beautiful.  We had a suite on the 30th floor overlooking the Strip.  The view at night was amazing!  We could also see the airport from our room, so we could watch planes take off and land all day.  While we were there, we went to a really nice dinner at Morton’s (a wonderful steak restaurant–mmm, steak!), saw the Cirque show Mystere, spent some time at the beach and wave pool at the hotel, slept in without anyone waking us up and through the whole night without anyone crying, saw a couple movies, got a massage and just basically had a good time.  No cooking, no laundry, no dishes, and someone cleaned my room every day.  Boy, the good life.  We drove back to my mom’s on Friday afternoon and then everyone was back home on Saturday.  So we’re getting back into the swing of things again and catching up on everything we missed.

Home at last.

Filed under: Jonny, Kimberly — kimberly @ 8:04

What a week it’s been.  Jonny and I spent a week on vacation to celebrate our 10 year anniversary (which was in July). A really big thank you to Gamma, Aunt Kiwi and Aunt Mollie for watching the boys.  We had a great time.  It was a little weird to be without the boys for that long, but we are finally home again and trying to return to “real” life.  I’m a little under the weather at the moment, but I’m sure I’ll be seeing everyone soon.
