Sling obsession.

I have to say I love slings – baby carriers of all kinds.  I started with a traditional padded ring sling with Evan, added a maya wrap with Seth (another ring sling, but you can adjust it more) and have wanted an Ergo and mei tei since I saw them a couple years ago.  I would get a dozen different ones if I could.  So when I saw this contest on one of my message boards, I couldn’t resist.  I just have to put a link to the contest on my blog to get an extra entry. So…

Our first beach day.

Filed under: Evan, Seth — kimberly @ 20:39

Today we went on our first beach outing of the summer.  Since mommy has been feeling pretty miserable all winter/spring, I told the boys we would have a great summer and do some really fun things to make up for it (and since we won’t be getting out much this fall with the new baby, this is our chance).  We met up with a couple other families and all the kids played together.  The boys had a great time.  The weather wasn’t perfect – it was pretty cloudy and overcast – but it was warm so that was all that mattered to me (I don’t do well when I’m too cold).  The boys were content to run around and play in the sand, so I didn’t have to brave the cold water, which was another plus because the waves were really big and there was a strong riptide.  The lifeguards were standing at the water’s edge the whole time and shouting at people to be careful and re-directing them when needed.  Evan wanted to get his feet wet at the end, which was OK.  It was fun to watch him chase the waves then run away from them.  Seth made sandcastles and Evan buried himself in the sand, which was pretty funny too.  They were sad to leave, but I promised there would be many more beach days to come this summer.

Brotherly Love.

Just a cute picture of the boys having fun together.  They enjoy playing together more and more as they get older.  I hope that keeps up, and that their baby brother will be happily welcomed into the fold.

The Pearson Zoo.

Recently Evan decided that he wanted to make his own zoo, so he got out all his stuffed animals and lined them up across the floor.  Seth wanted to get in on the action too.  They separated them into categories and put all the same animals together.  At one point the entire floor was covered with piles of animals, complete with spaces between them to be able to walk around and look at them.  It’s fun to watch their imaginations at work.

Climbing again.

My little mountain climber constantly amazes me at the things he can climb and the positions he can get himself into.  I think my heart must stop a dozen times whenever we go to the playground and I look up to find him trying to scale some new height.  A few weeks ago he decided it would be fun to see if he could fit behind the TV.  There isn’t a lot of space back there (you can see he’s taller than the space and looks pretty mushed up), but he managed to climb into the entertainment unit and get himself all comfy.  I was telling Gamma about it, so here’s the pictures I promised.

Congratulations, Aunt Kiwi (part of a busy weekend).

Filed under: Extended Family, Kimberly — kimberly @ 7:11

A big shout out to my little sister Karen (aka Aunt Kiwi).  Another part of the busy weekend was driving out to the IE (Inland Empire) to attend her graduation from Cal State San Bernardino.  After many long hours, countless projects and papers, nutty professors and enough stress and grief to give the average middle-aged man a heart attack, she finally got her Masters Degree in Education.  I am so proud of her (and I admit, a little jealous).  I’ve always wanted to get a Masters Degree and be able to wear one of those cool hoods (those sashes you wear around your neck after getting a graduate degree).  And the eduction one has a nice light blue color – some majors have pretty ugly colors.  My mom and I both cried a little when all the graduates walked in.  She has worked so hard (all while teaching her obnoxious 4th graders full-time over the last few years) and it was such an exciting event.  I’m so glad I got to see it.  Congratulations Karen!!!

Baby shower (part of a busy weekend).

The next leg of the weekend was going to Holly’s baby shower in Huntington Beach.  She and Jonny’s cousin Dan are expecting their first baby in just a few weeks.  We love them so much and they are going to make such great parents.  They have lived here for a few years, but are getting ready to move to Utah next week to be closer to their parents and other family.  We are very sad to see them go and will miss them very much.  But being close to grandparents myself, I understand the value of having extended family nearby (although I would not want to move at 8 1/2 months pregnant).

Baby Siena/Eva (we’re looking forward to the final decision) got some beautiful new clothes and other wonderful gifts.  We all had a great time celebrating a new baby.  Congratulations Dan and Holly!

Take me out to the ballgame (part of a busy weekend).

Filed under: Evan, Jonny, Seth — kimberly @ 7:05

The first leg of the busy weekend was the Angels baseball game.  It was Mormon night, which our family has attended each summer for about 5 years.  Grandma and Papa always get tickets for us, and it’s a pretty good time.  I was a little tired so I chose to sit this one out while Jonny took the boys with Grandma and Papa.  The boys were so excited about going to the game and were talkiing about it all day.  Evan asked me which team we wanted to win, so I told him to cheer for the Angels.  He didn’t want them to win though.  We had watched UC Irvine play on TV in the College World Series earlier in the week so Evan said he was going to cheer for the Anteaters instead of the Angels.  After trying to explain the difference between college and professional sports and that UCI wasn’t playing that night, he said he would cheer for the Anteaters anyway.  So he did – whenever people cheered for the Angels, he said “Go Anteaters.”

Of course, the boys were most looking forward to the Friday Night Fireworks after the game.  Seth kept saying “fireworks” in this really low, slow voice.  It was pretty cute.  Although when it got to that point he got scared and sat curled up in Papa’s lap most of the time, only peeking out a few times to see the fireworks.  Evan, on the other hand, loved them.  He told me about the different colors and shapes the fireworks had.

A very busy weekend.

Filed under: Evan, Jonny, Seth — kimberly @ 20:13

This weekend turned out to be an unusually busy one for our family.  Friday night Jonny and the boys went with Grandma and Papa to Mormon Night at Angel Stadium.  I decided to stay home and rest up a little after a long and tiring week, but it was a late night for the rest of them.  However, I was awake bright and early on Saturnday morning filling up water balloons for some Primary games at the ward activity that morning.  The ward had a 5k and pancake breastfast which sounded like fun, but because of the late night and busy day ahead we weren’t able to stay.  So after dropping off the water balloons, I got dressed and went to my cousin Holly’s baby shower (well, she’s actually Jonny’s cousin’s wife, but it’s all in the family, you know).  Then I came home, ate some lunch, sat down for a few minutes and then went to my sister’s graduation.  Jonny did a great job watching the boys alone most of the day, which is something he doesn’t have to do very often.  After getting home very late from the graduation, I woke up early Sunday and couldn’t get back to sleep.  Jonny and Seth were up early too, so another day began.  We spent the morning trying to rest as much as possible and practice for Evan’s first primary talk.  He had to give a talk about the temple, which was wonderful.  He was really cute and did a great job.  Grandma, Papa and Aunt Melanie even came to church with us so they could see it.  After church we headed to Grandma’s house for a delicious Father’s Day dinner.  So we are finally home, the boys fell asleep pretty quickly, and Jonny and I are exhausted and ready for some rest.
