It was a pretty funny sight. Yesterday, after dropping Jonny’s car off for some routine maintenance, we decided to pick up dinner on the way home. I got a chocolate shake and was sharing it with the boys. They were very excited. Seth kept asking for more, so I gave him the cup. He took a big drink through the straw and then started to cry. I was trying to figure out what could have happened to bring about such a sudden change in his attitude and then I noticed he was rubbing his forehead. The poor kid had his first brainfreeze. I felt pretty sorry for him, but Jonny and I got a pretty good laugh out of it.

Talking to the baby.
One of the things the boys have decided they like to do recenty is talk to the baby. Evan will ask if he can talk to the baby, and then he climbs up beside me and presses his mouth against my belly and starts talking. It usually starts out with, “Hi baby. My name is Evan.” Then Seth sees him, and wants to get in on the action. So he climbs up next to me on the other side and starts saying, “Hi baby,” over and over. It really is pretty cute to watch. I’m glad they are excited about their new sibling. It will be fun to see their reaction when the baby is kicking hard enough that they can feel it too.

Spring Break in North Carolina.
As a Christmas gift to the family from grandma and papa, we all got plane tickets to go to North Carolina to visit my neice, Emma, for spring break. So the whole clan packed up and went – the 4 of us, grandma and papa, my brother-in-law and his wife, and my other sister-in-law. After 13 hours of travelling by plane and automobiles (sorry, no trains), we made it to Wilmington, North Carolina. We were all pretty exhausted, but certainly glad to be there and out of the car (well, actually a 12 person van we rented to hold all of us). Some of us stayed at a hotel (which was really nice with 2 bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen) and the rest stayed at the condo my brother-in-law rents when he goes to NC to visit his daughter Emma.
That afternoon we got to see my neice Emma and celebrate her 7th birthday. We had cake and balloons and had a lot of fun. We made pasta dinner and tried to take it easy.
We visited the Wilmington Children’s Museum, which the kids loved. There are all kinds of games, hands-on exhibits, crafts, science experiments and much more for the kids to enjoy. There is even a section where you can dress up and be on-camera in front of a green screen or sing karaoke. Some of the sets we dontated from the old “Dawson’s Creek” sets, which was filmed in Wilmington.
We went to the beach one afternoon. It was pretty windy and I was freezing, but Jonny and the boys had a great time. I have never seen Evan spend so much time in the water. Usually he puts a foot in and runs away, never to go near it again that day. But he was playing, splashing and having a blast. We buried Emma in the sand, made sandcastles, and enjoyed the sun.
We went to Hiro’s one night for dinner, which is Emma’s favorite restaurant. It is like a Benihana’s, where they prepare the food in front of you. It was really fun, and very yummy. Seth, however, didn’t agree. He liked the food, but he was terrified of the fire. Whenever our chef would make a display of fire, Seth would cry. I told him to cover his eyes, so he sat there wimpering with his eyes covered for half of the dinner. He was even scared of the fires at the other tables in the restaurant. I felt pretty bad for him. The only part of the dinner he liked was going to visit the big fishtank at the front of restaurant.
We went to a couple different parks and let the kids run around. They had fun chasing bubbles, climbing everything and sliding down the slides together. We had a picnic lunch one afternoon too. Emma and Evan made the sandwiches, which was interesting (we added a little extra pb&j and cleaned them up a bit before we actually ate them). They were very proud of themselves.
By the end of the week, I think we were all pretty exhausted and ready to go home, even though it meant another 13 hour travel journey to get back. It was really nice to see Emma, and the boys just adored being able to play with their cousin. While we were there, my brother-in-law had a job interview and offer, so he and his wife will be moving there later this month. It will be great for him to be so much closer to his daughter, and of course, a good excuse for us to visit again.

Another smooth talker.
Seth is turning into quite the talker. His brother was a talker pretty early, so we’ve been waiting for Seth to talk in full force with words we can understand. Well, each day he is saying a few new words and really putting the sentences together. There aren’t too many things I can’t understand now. It’s so fun to watch him grow up and turn into a little boy. He is so happy, and just brings a smile to your face when he looks up at you and grins.

We made it home.
Aftter spending our spring break in North Carolina visiting my neice, Emma, we made it back home very late last night. I have never been so excited to sleep in my own bed. We had a lot of fun and the boys loved to see their cousin, but the traveling was pretty exhausting. It took 13 hours to get there and 13 more to get back (counting the drive to the airport, flight time, drive from the airport to the hotel etc.) We’re glad to be home and get back into our routines. I’ll post pictures and more details soon.

Belly Bean #3
Well, bean #3 is alive, and yes, kicking. It is still causing me a world of nausea, exhaustion and other non-fun stuff (that is too gross to mention here), but I felt the first kick last night, and several more times today. So at almost 17 weeks, at least there is a reminder for me that this will all be worth it at the end.
Strawberry Fun
Today we took a tour of the Tanaka Farms strawberry fields (a local organic farm) with some of our AP friends. A tractor pulled us on a cart ride around the farm. We got to stop and taste some of the delicious veggies and fruit they grow like sugar snap peas, spinach, carrots, celery, maui onions, and of course, strawberries (Did you know peas are really a fruit, since they come from a flower? I didn’t). I think I still have some of the sweet maui onion taste in my mouth, even after all the other delicious goodies I tried. After touring the farm, the tractor stopped and we got to pick a basketfull of our own strawberries to take home, and also try as many as we liked. The boys had so much fun picking them. Seth doesn’t like to eat them much, but Evan sure had a good time eating enough for the both of them. His face and hands were pretty red by the end. When we were done the tractor took us back to the barn. Evan has been asking to eat more strawberries ever since.
Evan trying spinach.
Mmm, yummy celery.
A faceful of strawberries.

My budding artist.
As I’ve mentioned before, the boys love to draw (and do anything art related really – paint, sculpt with play-do, dance etc.). Here is a recent masterpiece from Evan. He drew all the planets, some regular and shooting stars, the galaxy, comets and lots of moons around the planets. When he was done, grandma labeled everything for him.

Fun with sunflower seeds.
Yesterday afternoon, Evan was looking for a snack. Our house has been a little sparse on our usual snacks lately because I just haven’t felt like grocery shopping very much (it’s no fun to look at food when you are queasy). Well, Evan decided he wanted to try the bottle of sunflower seeds that were in the cupboard (they are already unshelled, thankfully). I wasn’t sure he would like them, so I let him try one and he decided he wanted to eat them. So I got him a bowl and put about a 1/4 cup in it. He took the bowl and went to sit down and eat them, and I went upstairs to put some laundry away.
Well, I come back and the boys are chasing each other around the couch, a common occurence in our house. Then Evan started telling me that Seth had sunflower seeds in his diaper. They were both laughing hysterically. I opened up Seth’s onesie and a bunch of sunflower seeds spilled out. There were even more strewn across the couch. It sure seemed like there were way more sunflower seeds than the 1/4 cup I put in the bowl – I think they multiplied. I asked Evan how the seeds got there and he said Seth put them there. So I’m not sure who’s idea it was to put them down Seth’s shirt, or how they got all over the couch, or when Evan decided to play with them and not to eat them, but they sure had fun playing with them.
After a nice vacuuming the couch and floor looked better, and the boys went back to chasing each other around the couch.
