Easter weekend.

Filed under: Evan, Seth — kimberly @ 7:35

Since Mommy was not feeling well, we didn’t have a very exciting Easter this year.  And with Grandma and Papa out of town, we were on our own.  So we went to an Easter Egg Hunt with some friends from church on Friday.  The boys liked searching for eggs with all the other kids.  Thanks Emily for letting me borrow a basket (I remembered to bring eggs, but in all my pregnancy haze, I forgot the baskets to collect them in).  Then on Easter we hid a few around the house, although admittedly it was after they woke up.  Of course, then Evan asked why the Easter Bunny didn’t come to his house to hide eggs before so that was a fun conversation.  Next year will be better, right?

Real beauty.

I saw an interview on the news this morning with an english model who is the first “plus-size” woman to compete for the Miss England pageant, which is coming up this summer.  She is a size 16 (which apparently is equivalent to an american size 12) and is 5′ 10″ and 12 1/2 stone (which is about 175 pounds).  The media picked up on her story so she is going around promoting the idea of embracing your curves, having a healthy body image and letting “real” women know they can do anything even though the media promotes size 0 stick women.  For those of us that have never been, and will never be, the “ideal” size or shape I applaud her and her efforts.  But I also had two other things come to mind.  It’s sad that such a big deal is being made about a woman that is the same size as most of the women in England and America.  We have such a distorted sense of beauty and how attainable it actually is to be like the women on television and in magazines.  I like to think I have a fairly healthy body image.  Sure, there are things I would love to change, but I’m not worried enough about it to do anything drastic.  I like to think it’s more about how you feel and what you see in the mirror than about numbers on a scale.  But to prove how influencial the media really is when you are surrounded by this stuff every day - I have to admit my first thought when they said she was a size 16 and that she would be a 12 in america was that I don’t ever want to move to England and have to go up that many sizes.  I caught myself pretty quickly and stopped that thought, but how sad that I had it in the first place?  Anyway, she seemed very sweet and was very articulate so I hope she does well this summer.

Zot Zot Zot, part 3

Well, we didn’t win the final so UCI didn’t make it into the NCAA tournament.  Oh well.  Maybe next year will be our year.  I have to keep the faith.  Cal State Fullerton got a 14th seed in the tourney and has to play Wisconsin in the first round.  An ESPN poll has 95% of voters picking Wisconsin, so it doesn’t look too good for the Big West.  Well, March Madness should be fun to watch, regardless.

Go Eaters!  Zot Zot Zot!

Zot Zot Zot, part 2

Filed under: Jonny, Kimberly — kimberly @ 10:11

Well, depsite all common sense, #5 seed UCI has made it to the finals of the Big West Tournament tonight.  They had a dramatic 55-50 win last night against #1 seed UC Santa Barbara.  Wow, what a stunner.  So tonight they take on #3 seed Cal State Fullerton in the final (who beat #2 seed CSU Northridge to get to the final).  UCI just lost to CSUF a couple weeks ago, so we’ll see what happens, but….if they win, UC Irvine will get their first ever trip to the NCAA tournament.  Talk about March Madness!  Jonny sure wishes he was going to the game tonight.

Go Eaters!!! Zot Zot Zot!

Party time.

We had Evan’s birthday party last weekend.  Yes, it was a little late for his birthday but it was the only time we could get everyone together.  We had planned to take a family picture afterwards, but it turned out that Jonny was out of town for work and Aunt Mollie was sick and couldn’t come.  So even though our picture plans went out the window, we had a great celebration.

Evan decided he wanted a bug themed party so we had bug masks, butterfly sun-catcher decorating, a bug jumping contest and ladybug cupcakes.  The kids loved running around the park and I think everyone had a good time.  It was Evan’s first birthday party with friends and he loved having everyone there.  All in all, it was a great success.

Our bug-themed treats.

The kids painting and decorating butterfly suncatchers.

The creepy crawlers…uh, I mean kids.

Yuck, yuck.

Some days are definately better than others.  The last few days have been the pits.  I try not to complain too much, but I’ve been feeling so gross the last few days that sometimes you just need to whine a little.  The nausea and other yuckiness just hasn’t wanted to go away no matter what I do.  It’s not like I don’t know what to expect - I’ve been through this a couple times before.  But it just gets harder each time since I have more kids to watch than the last go around.  It seems to go in cycles – I feel decent for a few days and am able to get some things done with only a distant nausea (thankfully I felt that way for Evan’s birthday party last Saturday) and then I feel yucky for a few days and I just can’t get anything done.  Hopefully I’ll be on the upswing soon.

OK, enough whining.

Zot Zot Zot!

The Big West Conference men’s basketball tournament starts March 12.  UC Irvine has not had the best season this year (9-7 in conference and 15-15 overall, with a loss to CSU Fullerton last night), and has traditionally not done great in the tournament even in years when the have a great season record.  But here’s hoping they have a great first round on Wedensday against CSULB and make it far up the bracket.

GO ANTEATERS!!!  ZOT! ZOT! ZOT!

Kids say the darndest things.

A conversation recently:

Evan, “My hair falls out.  Where does it go?”

Me, “I don’t know.  How do you know your hair falls out?”

Evan, “I just know it in my sprit.”

Our newest family news.

Filed under: The Family — kimberly @ 13:45

It’s true, we are expecting baby #3 in mid-September.  Although I’m feeling pretty horrible right now, I’m looking forward to another wonderful Hypnobabies birth.  I recently overheard a new mom telling her friend that that she would have a bunch of kids if it weren’t for the delivery.  My thought was the complete opposite – I would have a bunch if I wasn’t so sick for so many months.  The birth is the best and most wonderful, peaceful and empowering part.  (**a little Hypnobabies plug here since I have had 2 great, natural and pain free births and encourage all moms to give it a try**)

We’ll keep you posted when we find out what we are having later this spring.

Happy Birthday to me.

I’ve been a blog slacker lately, mostly because I have not been feeling well.  But today is my birthday, so I have to wish myself a Happy Birthday!
