As I previously mentioned, my family was sick at Christmas so we didn’t go to visit as planned. Since everyone was on the mend a few days later, we decied to head on up this weekend and have a belated Christmas celebration. We left early on Saturday morning, with the boys still in their jammies. We got to my mom’s house, opened gifts, had our traditional Christmas breakfast and spent the afternoon playing games and relaxing. We played a couple rounds of Balderdash, which Evan liked because he could move the pieces around. We also had a few spirited rounds of Smarty Pants on Wii. That was really fun. I’m not a video game fan, but if I ever get one, it will be a Wii. There is even a point when you have to dance to try to get double points, so the more you dance, the more points you get. The best and funniest part was to see each of us have our turn to dance, with the boys dancing along for moral support every time (I think my dancing and Jonny’s dancing were pretty hilarious). I beat my sister Mollie, then Jonny and my sister Karen (aka Aunt Kiwi) played. Jonny and I also had a round where he had an amazing, come from behind, guessed on the last second question win. I am demanding a rematch next time we go up. We all had a great time (and thanks mom for the yummy lasagna dinner).
Jonny and I came home Sunday morning and the boys stayed at Gama’s house. It’s great to get some things done around the house without so much “help”.

Mmm, chocolate. Seth eating his donut on the way to Gama’s house.

We all had fun at game time. Evan is playing with Auntie M.

Seth plays quietly and is concentrating very hard.
We were supposed to visit my family for Christmas day this year, but they were all sick so we ended up staying at home and having a quite Christmas morning of our own. I made my family’s traditional Christmas coffee cake which was very yummy. Santa visited and gave the boys big Play-Doh sets, which they have been playing with non-stop since they got them. I’m glad they like it so much, but boy, what a mess. There are constantly little pieces of play-doh on the floor. At least they’re easy to sweep up, and I’m truly grateful we got rid of the downstairs carpet and replaced it with hardwood before Seth was born. It sure is a lot easier to maintain.
Later that morning Grandma and Aunt Melanie came to visit and see the boys while Papa was home sick. We had a nice, relaxing day.

Evan can read his name and Seth’s name, so he handed out their presents.

We had a great early Christmas with Jonny’s family on Sunday. We went over after church since Jonny’s sister was in town for the weekend and his brother hadn’t left to visit his daugherter in North Carolina yet. The boys loved handing out presents to everyone, and of course, opening their own. The train set that Seth got was a big hit. The boys even spent the night at grandma’s house so they could play with toys more. The big stuff stays at grandma’s house (since they have a lot more space than we do), but the boys brought home plenty of books, Cars toys and the Mr. Potato Head family.

Seth is patiently waiting for presents.

Everyone loves the trains.
Merry Christmas to everyone. I hope you are having a wonderful day filled with joy, laughter, friends, family and lots of fun.

As promised, I’ve finally had a few extra minutes to add some new pictures to some of the old posts from the last few weeks. Check them out below. We are finally all better here (I hope!), but it made the rounds through all 4 of us during the past week. We did have to postpone Christmas with my mom tomorrow because everyone there is sick, but what’s one more weekend, right?
And keep checking back – I’ll have pictures from our Christmas up in a few days too.
Have a Merry Christmas everyone!
Boy, this week sure has flown by. Between all 4 of us being sick at some point or another and the regular stuff and the getting ready for Christmas stuff, time has just slipped away. I still have one more present to buy tomorrow, and I’m gathering my patience and bracing for long lines and cranky people. Hopefully it will go smoothly.
I was just doing some laundry and chores downstairs alone tonight, thinking of the reason for the season, and hoping everyone has a wonderful and merry Christmas. I’m so thankful for all the blessings the Lord has seen fit to give me this year. Have a great weekend everyone.
And GO BYU! Let’s hope they can roll over UCLA in the Las Vegas Bowl this weekend like they should have in their regular season matchup in September.
Here is what we spent the day working on all day Saturday, until Seth got sick. It was fun while it lasted.

Our weekend started out great. My sister Karen, aka Aunt Kiwi, came for our annual hoiday baking session. We spent all day Saturday making all kinds of yummy treats for our family and friends. We were busy but had loads of fun. So Saturday evening I went upstairs to get ready to go see the closing night of “Savior of the World”, a musical our church was putting on. Karen was going to watch the boys while Jonny and I went. But then out of the blue Seth threw up. No warning. So Jonny and I decided not to go, which was a bummer because we were really excited to see the production. But it was good we didn’t go because poor Seth threw up many more times over the next 4 hours. It was like night and day – one minute he was fine and the next he was miserable.
So Sunday morning he was feeling a little better but I could tell he wasn’t 100% yet so we stayed home while Jonny and Evan went to church. Then phase 2 started when I got sick in the middle of the night Sunday night. So Evan, Seth and I spent most of Monday laying in bed and watching TV. And then phase 3 hit Monday night while Jonny and I were upstairs putting Seth to bed and Evan called to us with a funny sound in his voice. Jonny went downstairs to find Evan had thrown up too. Thankfully, we all seem to be on the mend and feeling pretty good today, just a little tired. So we are going to take it easy and make sure we are all over whatever this horrible thing is. At least it seems to pass pretty quickly though. And we’re all hoping Jonny isn’t next. And so far Karen hasn’t gotten sick, as far as I know.
So delivery of our goodies was delayed a bit due to all the chaos in our house over the last few days, but I’m hoping we can get out today and get some fresh air after being in the house so long and bring some treats to our friends.
Jonny had the day off on Wedensday so we decided to have a little family outing and spend some time together. Since we have annual passes to the San Diego Zoo, we decided to put them to good use. We left early to get there when the zoo opened (OK, we got a little later start than planned, but we were still there really early). Evan wanted to see everything. He loves to look at maps and so he looked at the zoo map and picked out all the animals he wanted to see. He loved looking at each one, although he’s not one to dawdle. Once we would get to an animal he’d look at it for just a minute and then say, “OK, let’s see the next one.” He really enjoyed the snakes, the hippos and the monkeys, although he did ask several times if the bears or tigers could get him. I assured him they were in their cages and couldn’t get him. I’m not sure where he got that idea from though. Seth is a little more paitient and likes to look for a little longer. He did make it through pretty quickly though because he wanted to follow Evan and keep up with him. We all had a good time and it was great to do something together.

There are 2 snakes here – 1 in front and 1 in back – Evan loved them.

We finally got our Christmas tree up tonight. We haven’t had one in a few years, so it was fun to do it again. The boys (mostly Evan) had a fun time putting all the ornaments on. Evan was really excited to finally get to get the ornaments out of the boxes, and Daddy even helped him put the star on top. We even got a special ornament for each of us that the boys picked out themselves. Of course, I did have to move a few ornaments around after the boys went to bed so that the tree looked a little more even and not so bottom heavy. We turned on all the lights in the house afterwards and enjoyed the Christmas decorations for a little while. We all had a good time trying to get into the Christmas spirit.

Now it’s Seth’s turn.
