Color me crazy.

Filed under: Evan, Seth — kimberly @ 12:11

The boys have been coloring like crazy lately.  Every day Evan asks if he can color.  And then of course Seth wants to color too because Evan is doing it.  I’m so glad they are expressing their artistic talents, but unfortunately it usually turns into a fight over paper and crayons since they inevitably want the same ones at the same time.  And of course, Seth ends up eating a few and has had some pretty interesting colored poop lately.

Here are a couple pics of the boys when they are actually coloring together and having fun.

Our trip to the ER.

Well, Seth had his first trip to the ER yesterday.  The adventurer that he is, he was climbing and fell down.  Papa was worried, so he and grandma took Seth to get looked at (I think Papa was having flashbacks of Evan’s fall and the ensuing stiches in his forehead when Evan was about the same age).  The Urgent Care sent them to the hospital for a CT scan, just in case.  So I went and met them at the hospital.  Of course, Seth wanted nothing to do with the doctor, the CT machine or anything else.  He was pretty quiet for awhile (except the crying and screaming) then just started telling us he wanted to go bye-bye.   After an initial meltdown when we laid him down in the CT machine, he calmed down and just stared at me and cried a little, so the test went pretty fast.  And all the waiting around gave Seth and Papa a chance to have a nice game of paper-towel-in-the-trashcan-basketball.

All in all Seth did a really good job and the doctors gave him a clean bill of health.  And Evan had a great time making paper airplanes with grandma in the waiting room.  I was really proud of both of my boys.

My possesive toddler.

Seth is sure getting the hang of the whole “mine” thing.  He’s becoming more aggressive with his brother and isn’t afraid to say (or usually scream) “Thats mine!”   He even grabbed the blanket off my lap this evening with a fierce “That’s mine,” then proceeded to leave it on the floor.  I guess it’s more about the power than the actual thing.  Gee, where is he learning that? (refer to my previous post Monkey See, Monkey Do if you have a doubt).

He’s also becoming quite the tantrum thrower.  He goes into full meltdown mode every time he doesn’t get his way.  He screams and cries and pounds his feet and arms.  It’s pretty funny to watch, actually. But after the third or fourth time in a day, it does get a little old.  I just have to remember, this phase too, shall pass.

Funny Quote.

Mommy wasn’t feeling very good on Monday so we went to McDonald’s for dinner.  After finishing our meal, the conversation goes like this:

Jonny: “Uggh, that was such a big burger.”

Evan (turning his ketchup covered face to me with a big grin): “Uggh, that was such a big Happy Meal.”

Of course, I had to laugh at that.

3 or 13?

Lately, I’m not sure if I’m raising a 3 year old boy or a 13 year old girl.  Every time I ask Evan to do something he doesn’t want to do, he gives me a big overemphasized sigh or a big “ugh” and then responds ”I don’t want to” or “nooooo” in that drawn out, whiney way I thought only teenage girls could manage.

So where does a 3 year old boy pick this kind of thing up?

It finally happened.

Filed under: Evan, Seth — kimberly @ 22:10

For those of you with a low tolerance for icky things, you may not want to read this one.  Consider yourself fairly warned – this one contains some discussion of certain bodily functions.

Well, it finally happened when I was giving the boys a bath last night.  I had already put Seth in the bath and then turned around to help get Evan undressed and change his poopy diaper (he pees great in the potty, but still won’t poop in it).  I turn around only to be confronted with more poop.  Seth had decided to poop in the bathtub.  Yuck.  So I pull Seth out and hand him to Jonny, pull all the toys out, clean out the tub and scrub it down, then re-fill it and put everyone back in.  They both got a good scrubbing after that.

I actually can’t believe it’s taken this long for this to happen.  Having boys, I expect to be peed on when they are babies and be confronted with more bodily function humor and jokes than I would ever actually find humorous, so I guess this is just one more of those things.  Oh the joys of motherhood.

I love tailgaiting.

Filed under: Jonny, Kimberly — kimberly @ 19:42

Jonny and I went to the BYU vs. UCLA football game yesterday at the Rose Bowl.  We had a great time at the game.  Even though the Cougars didn’t win, they played a good middle of the game.  If BYU had been able to keep up that intensity for the whole thing, we could have won.

But the best part of the afternoon was the tailgaiting.  I think that may be one of my new favorite things.  We went up early with some family and friends and had a great BBQ.  The food was good, the company was better and the weather was perfect.  Our group was all set up under a nice shade tree and it was great to relax for awhile without the boys.  A special thanks to grandma and papa for watching the boys for us so we could go to the game.

More alike than I realize?

Filed under: Evan, Seth — kimberly @ 15:32

As I have mentioned before, Seth thinks he’s older than he is and wants to do everything that Evan does.  I was organizing some photos last night and came across some pics of Evan when he was about Seth’s age.  They were small on the screen at the time, and my first thought was “wow, that sure looks like Seth”.  Does he want to look like his brother too?  I don’t know if anyone else sees it, but I sure think they look like brothers.  Especially at that age, before Evan got all those curls.

Seth’s new bed.

Sometimes my boys are just too cute.  Evan was playing up in his room this afternoon and I was sitting on the couch resting (I haven’t gotten too much sleep lately) when Seth started rounding up pillows and blankets.  I wasn’t sure what he was doing, but I didn’t really feel like getting up to look and no one was screaming or crying so I figured it must not be too bad.  But then he disappeared for several minutes, and you know how you start to wonder when things get a little too quiet?  So I finally got up and rounded the corner only to find Seth lying on the stairs, smiling and very content.  He says, “…ni-nite” while smiling and staring up at me.  I’m not sure why he decided to make a bed on the stairs, but he was very proud of himself for doing it.  I ran to get the camera, hoping he wouldn’t move in the meantime, and was able to snap a few shots.  Then Evan came downstairs and messed up the bed a little, but Seth just put it back together and tried to get comfortable again.

Some long overdue home improvement.

We haven’t done very much to our house since we moved in.  In the beginning, we did some painting, then I made a nursery when I was pregnant with Evan, and a couple years ago we got new flooring in the dining/family room.  But that’s about it.  When we bought the place I had some great plans and even bought a bunch of materials several years ago that have been sitting in the garage ever since.  Well, next month we will have been in our house for 7 years and I’m finally getting sick of all these unfinished projects, so Jonny and I decided that we would put the long weekend to good use and get a few things done.  So, we worked on the 2nd bathroom, and here are some before and after shots.  There are still some things I would like to do, but at least this is a start.  (Notice I am finally getting rid of the sea animals in that room – YAE!!!  For those that don’t know the saga, the previous owner was a single woman in her late 30’s that apparently loved the ocean.  The hosue had these painted sea animals all over it, was decorated in grey, pink and turquoise, and had a huge painted mural of a seal sitting on a rock in the ocean that took up one entire wall in the master beadroom. I can’t even adequately describe what this looked like).

This is definately a work in progress.  I’ll post some more pics when it’s done in a few days.
