Like father, or is it mother, like son…

On the car ride home today, I asked Evan if he wanted me to turn the air conditioner on for him, or if he was OK.  He replied that he was OK.  He then went on to tell me, “well mommy, I like to be warm.”  Great, I thought.  Me too.  Jonny and I are always arguing about the temperature and if it’s too hot (like I like it) or too cold (like he likes it).  So I tell Evan, “do you like to be warm and cozy like mommy?”  He then tells me, “no, I like to be cold.”  OK, I think.  Does he really know what I’m asking him?  So I continue to probe.  “So you like to be cold like daddy?”  Well, the answer finally becomes clear.  He replies, “No, I like my head cold and my body warm.”  Of course, it all makes sense now.  I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the trees?

He’ll be ready for school when it’s time.

Evan just amazes me all the time with the amount of knowledge he has in his little head.  I won’t bore you with all the proud parent details of the things he knows and does, but I had to share this one.  I asked  him to write his name yesterday, and this is what he came up with.  I thought it was pretty good for a kid that isn’t even 3 1/2 yet.  By the time kindergarten rolls around, he’s going to blow the competition away (of course, I may be a little biased, hee hee).

The TiVo guy rules our house.

Filed under: Evan, Seth — kimberly @ 13:58

We have TiVo in our house.  I don’t know what we would do without it.  It’s the most awesome thing ever.  The boys love it too, but not for the same reasons.  They love it for the TiVo guy.  Somehow, there is a way to make this little TiVo cartoon play on the tv when you push some buttons on the remote.  The TiVo logo is a little character with legs and antenae, and in the cartoon he dances around and the boys think it’s hilarious.  But only Jonny knows how to make it work though (he won’t share his secret with me).  So several times a week Evan asks if he can watch the TiVo guy.  I always have to tell him he has to wait for daddy to get home.  Well, now Seth has started to ask for it too.  He turned to me today and said what sounded like “eee oh eye”.  I looked at him with this puzzled look on my face and told him I didn’t understand what he wanted.  In the background Jonny says, “He wants the TiVo guy.”  So I’m thinking…What?!?  When did he learn about the TiVo guy.  I turn to Seth and say, “you want to watch the TiVo guy?”  He gets this big grin on his face and starts laughing.  So Jonny comes over and does his magic with the remote and starts the cartoon and both of the boys are giggling with glee.  This cartoon is all of about 60 seconds long, so as soon as it’s over they both start asking for it again.  Seth keeps repeating, “eee oh eye” every time Jonny plays it.  I know Seth is starting to grow up fast now and is learning new words every day, but I just couldn’t believe what I heard this afternoon.

Some amateur photos…

Filed under: Evan, Kimberly, Seth — kimberly @ 15:35

I love photography.  I have always loved to take picutures, and ever since Jonny got me a nice Canon digital SLR for my birthday a couple years ago (after hearing me complain non-stop about not being able to take good pictures of Evan after he was born) I have taken tons and tons of them.  I usually pick out a few and then scrapbook them, which is something else I love to do.  I wish I knew more about the technical aspects of taking pictures (like exposure, lighting etc) because then I could really have a lot of fun.  Maybe some of my work with Jenny will rub off on me and I’ll learn a few things.  She is a great photographer and it is so much fun to see the final products.  (You can find a link to her website on my blogroll to the right.  She even has a picture of Evan in there from our family photo shoot last summer).

Well, I don’t have any nice recent pictures of the boys and they are at an age where trying to get a picture of them together is impossible.  So I decided we would head off to the park and try to take some pictures of my own until I have more professional ones done when they are a little older (and can take direction better!).  They certainly aren’t super-duper, but here are a few of the cuter ones that I captured.

We love visitors.

Filed under: Evan, Seth, The Family — kimberly @ 13:26

When Jonny is out of town (which is not really normal, but seems to be happening a lot this year) I love visitors to come help me with the boys.  This time my sister Karen, aka Aunt Kiwi, stayed with us.  The boys had a great time playing with her, since she loves to shower them with attention (and she’ll read the books to Evan that mommy has read a million times and just doesn’t want to read today 10 more times).  And Seth was walking around everywhere saying “Wiwi, Wiwi” looking for her (which he is still doing, btw).  It was really cute.  She also helped me make some more progress on our crazy garage.  I can see the end in sight, someday.

I’m sure she was exhausted by the time she went home, but we all sure loved having her here.  On our last day together, we stopped by the Irvine Spectrum for some fun in the sun before heading to the airport to pick up daddy.  Here are some photos of our ride on the train and the ferris wheel.

The boys having fun.

Filed under: Evan, Seth — kimberly @ 15:38

It’s really fun to watch the boys have more and more fun together.  They fight all the time, but there are those few moments when they are sweet brothers.  Seth will be joining Evan in Nursery at church next week, so we’ll see if they both survive.  But here is one of the fun moments recently.

A big milestone for us.

Jonny and I recently celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary.  It’s hard to imagine that it’s been that long.  I looked at our wedding album (boy, did we look young) and it brought back so many memories.  It was such a wonderful, exciting, stressful, hopeful time.  Our lives are so different now, but the thing that remains the same is the love we have for each other.

Happy Independence Day

Filed under: The Family — kimberly @ 14:39

We had a fun 4th of July this year.  We started it off with a pancake breakfast with our ward church family.  It was fun to spend the morning with friends.  We also had a little tribute ceramony for a ward member who is getting ready to serve his 2nd tour in Iraq soon.  Then we relaxed awhile before heading up to Irvine to spend the afternoon with family.  We all took a picnic dinner to the park and played some games while waiting for the fireworks.  The boys had a great time playing, and they were both mesmirized by the light show.  Seth was his usual self and ran all over the place, not wanting to stop for anything.  Evan had fun playing catch.  He was scared to actually catch the ball, so he would run around with one hand over his head looking for a hiding spot until the ball hit the ground.  We all got a good laugh watching him.  All in all we had a great day.
