I didn’t raise no dummy.

Evan is a pretty smart kid and can figure things out quickly.  He also understands things in ways I don’t realize until it’s too late.  He demonstrated this recently at grandma’s house.  The last time he was visiting for the day, she started an “I love Seth” list.  This was an experiment in positive reinforecement to try to get Evan to be nicer to his brother.  Grandma would write down all the nice things Evan did for Seth and when the page was full, he would get a prize.  The first day he was able to get a few things written down.  Well, we went to see Grandma and Papa for Mother’s Day yesterday and Evan continued to work on his list.  He would give a toy to Seth and tell grandma “I shared with Seth.”  So after getting a few more lines filled in, he asked grandma how many more numbers there were (the list was numbered down the page).  They counted the blank lines and figured out he had to do 7 more nice things for Seth before the page was filled and he could get his prize.  So he frantically went over to the toy box and counted out 7 toys, scooped them all up in his arms and took them over to Seth (well, sort of shoved them at Seth) and said, “here Seth.”  Then he turned to grandma and announced, “I shared with Seth.  I’m all done.”

We were all watching this unfold, so by this time all of us are laughing like crazy.  It wasn’t exactly what grandma had in mind when she started the list, but it was full now so Evan got his prize.  I guess we’ll have to come up with some more rules next time about the list and what qualifies to get on it.

Our family, according to Evan.

While out running some errands this weekend, Evan decided he wanted to talk about our family.  He informed Jonny and I that we have 4 families.  He said, “there is mommy, daddy, Seth, and just me, Evan.”  It was cute the way he singled himself out – something I hadn’t heard him do before.

Too dark?

Art Linkletter was right when he said, “Kids say the darndest things” because sometimes Evan just cracks me up.  We were leaving the mall a couple days ago and were parked in the parking garage.  As we were leaving he said, “I can’t see a thing in here.”  When probed, he explained that it was just too dark and he wanted to go into the sun so he could see again.  Of course, the parking garage isn’t that dark, but what he said and the way he said it was just funny.  I couldn’t help but laugh.

Sticker Fun.

Filed under: Evan, Seth — kimberly @ 7:00

Aunt Kiwi paid a visit to our house recently and brought Evan a surprise, as she usually does.  This time it was some stickers for him to play with.  Well, after sticking them on and peeling them off some paper several times, Evan decided to plaster his face with the stickers.  It was really funny so I took some pictures of him.  Well, later that evening after Evan went to bed, Seth started to play with Evan’s toys.  He often does that so he can play with they toys that he wants but not be bothered by his brother or have the toys ripped from his hands.  Well after a few minutes of toy playing, Seth climbed up into Evan’s chair and started to play with the stickers too.  I looked over and he was trying to put the stickers on his face just like his brother had.  If you read my earlier post about monkey see monkey do, this is just another example.  It really was adorable to see Seth with stickers on his face too.
