We took a trip to Sea World today. It ended up being a lot of fun. Although I think the Aquarium is more fun in a hands-on way for Evan, he did enjoy seeing some of the bigger animals that the Aquarium doesn’t have like whales and dolphins. I think Evan enjoyed the penguins and dolphins the most. We watched the dolphin show, and he loved to see them do tricks and jump into the air. He was in charge of the map, so he would look at it and then tell me where to go next. “I want to see the sea turtles…I want to see the flamingos…I want to see the sharks…” They have pictures of all the animals on the map, so that made it really easy for him to figure out what to do next. But he didn’t want to spend too much time in one place. As soon as we would get somewhere and see the exhibit, he would be ready to move onto the next thing. And as soon as we would set off for the next thing, he would ask “where are the (insert animal here).” I kept having to tell him that we had to walk to the next thing, and that we would be there in just a few mintues. As usual, he just wanted to go, go, go.

Monkey see, monkey do.
Being the oldest child in my family, I never had the opportunity to look up to an older sibling and want to be just like them (Jonny is the oldest too, so he can’t help me there). So it’s been pretty entertaining for me to watch Seth look up to Evan. He wants to do everything his big brother does, good and bad. It’s cute to watch him sit on the potty like Evan (who is in the throws of potty training) or go down the slide in the backyard. It’s not so fun when he screams or hits or throws like his big brother. And it can be pretty terrifying when he tries to walk down the stairs after he sees his brother jump forward down them. But all in all, it’s pretty sweet to watch the relationship between them develop. I think it may be a couple of tough years while they fight over toys and territory, but I hope they will come out the other end as really close buddies.

My little music lover.
We all know that Evan loves music, and seems to have a really good ear for it. Well, this was demonstrated to me again yesterday. We were riding in the car doing some errands in the afternoon and I was listening to the radio. I usually have on NPR or country or kids music. But yesterday I was actually listening to some Top 40 type station and they played the Justin Timberlake hit “SexyBack.” For those of you that have heard it, the song is a catchy dance tune with a lot of post-production mechanical and club sounds. Once the song was over, Evan started singing part of the chorus, sounding something like, “suh-suh suh-suh comuh ona huh” which translates into “se-se-sexy come on over here” (or something like that anyway – the words are a little hard for even me to understand with all the post-production sound effects they put in the song). He kept begging me to turn the song back on again so he could sing it some more. I tried to explain to him that I couldn’t make the radio play something. But he was so excited and kept singing it over and over. He had the beat down and it sounded so adorable. I just couldn’t stop laughing at how cute it was. Every time he sang it, I just laughed harder. He even gave a repeat performance later that evening when we took Grandma, Papa and Aunt Jamie to the airport.
I’m not sure that this was the best song for a 3 year old to be singing and enjoying, but that beat sure is catchy and Evan sure was cute. I guess that’s why I don’t listen to those stations very much when the kids are in the car with me.
