Oh yes, oh yes, it’s Springtime!

I was reminded of the season change this morning while watching the news.  So when Evan got up today, I told him that Winter was over and now it was Spring so the weather would start to warm up a little and it would be sunny more.  Of course, he asked why it was Spring.  So after some explanation about the seasons and taking turns, he got a big grin on his face and said, “I want to plant something in the garden.”  I asked him who told him about planting a garden in the Spring and he said, “I was just remembering myself.”

So happy Spring to everyone.  Perhaps Evan and I will plant a garden soon.

A budding musician.

The boys love to play instruments and listen to music.  Recently, I found a harmonica that had been in a box in the garage and brought it inside and added it to our instrument collection.  Seth has now figured out how to play it, and walks around the house making all kinds of fun music.  He plays a few notes, then stops to make sure you are watching, and gets a big grin on his face.  It’s so fun to see him get so excited, and he’s so cute when he’s playing it.   I hope both boys always continue to love music.

Maybe it’s destiny.

For the last several months, when you ask Evan what he wants to be when he grows up, he’ll tell you he wants to be a mechanic.  Now, I’m not sure exactly where he saw that or what he really thinks it is, (he mentioned Higglytown Heroes, but I’m not positive that’s where) but it sounds cute.

So this evening he was playing with his Cars, as usual.  His Papa recently got him a little Guido Car (which, for those that haven’t seen the movie, is the sidekick to Luigi-the tire shop owner-and Guido is also the one that does the super-fast tire change at the end of the movie).  So Evan lined up his Cars and they all started talking to each other.  Then, I noticed that they were all talking about having their tires changed.  So as I watched, Evan had Guido “change” each of the other Cars 4 tires.  He would take Guido and push him into the tires, going from tire to tire on each car, just like Guido did in the movie.  Then he put the Car down and moved on to the next one until each Car had all their tires changed.  I have loved watching his imagination grow over the past year, and this was one ofthe cutest things I’ve seen.

Well, given his recent desire to be a mechanic, I couldn’t help but think perhaps it’s destiny.  If that’s what he ends up doing, I hope he’s a successful mechanic.

Another tooth.

Seth has been teething again, and got his 8th tooth recently.  He’s had his share of happy and cranky moments over the last few weeks because of that.  Here are some pics of one of the happier times, where you can barely see his new tooth.

Lightening McQueen is found!

As usual, Evan took his Cars to bed last night.  And since he likes to shove as many toys as he can behind his bed, why should the Cars be any different?

Well, he got a Lightening McQueen Car for Christmas, but it has been missing ever since.  We knew it was in the house somewhere, but he couldn’t remember where he put it, and I couldn’t find it.  So last night he shoved a bunch of Cars behind his bed (who knows how they fit back there) and when I moved the bed this morning to get them out, we noticed that the missing Lightening McQueen was back there too.

So the missing Car has been found and is now safely back with the rest of the Car family.

Spin around.

Seth was cracking me up tonight.  After Evan goes to bed, he and I usually head downstairs to put on his pajamas and get ready to put him to bed.  Well, tonight he wanted to play for a little while after his pj’s were on.  He started spinning around (as kids love to do) on the floor.  He would spin around about 3 times, then stumble around laughing.  Every time he would stop, he would look at me and laugh.  So I started singing, “Spin around, spin around…” as he was spinning.  It didn’t matter how many times he fell over, he just kept spinning and laughing.  About 5 minutes into this, he started to wait until I started singing before he would spin again.

He just seemed to love it so much.  It was so cute and funny to watch.  I just kept laughing, which made him laugh even more.  He ended up spinning for about 10 minutes before he moved on to something else.

Those are the times when your kids bring you the simplest and most incredible joy.

Don’t say that.

Even though he looks so sweet in the picture below, Evan is starting to find his own way.  Whenever anyone says something Evan doesn’t want to hear, he says”Don’t say that.”  So if you try to discipline him, he replies, “Don’t say that.”  Or if you tell him he can’t have….. (insert item here – food, toy, TV, etc.), he says, “Don’t say that.”  He is certainly trying to control his world in whatever way we can (which of course is typical for his age, but it leaves mommy and daddy feeling a little worn out at the end of the day sometimes).  A little budding independence is good, right?

Seth says balloon.

Seth is talking all the time now.  Of course, I don’t understand most of the words yet, but he says the same ones over and over so I know they mean something to him.  (He does have a handfull of words that I do understand, like dada, up, ball, hi etc).  I remember when Evan’s vocablulary just suddenly took off around 18 months.  It was like he had a new word every day.  And Seth is quickly approaching that age, so it’s just a matter of time now.

His newest word is “balloon.”  We’ve had several around the house lately between the boys’ birthdays (and those mylar ones float forever).  Seth loves balloons and wants to catch and play with them.  He reaches out for one and says, “boon”, often repeating it several times until he gets one.  So it’s “boon boon boon.”  And he spots them everywhere now and gets upset when he can’t have them.

We were at the grocery store recently and he saw one that had “escaped” and was up in the rafters.  He starts reaching and saying “boon”.  I tried to explain that mommy couldn’t reach that one, it was up too high in the ceiling.  Well, he didn’t like that at all and started to cry.  So of course, when he sees more balloons at the checkout (which are of course all the cool mylar balloons in shapes of balls, animals etc.), he gets upset when I won’t get one.  And it doesn’t help that Evan loves balloons too, so when I tell them both no, they both start crying.  I’ve now started trying to distract them at the checkout so they won’t notice the balloons that are always around.

It’s harder though when he sees one that isn’t really one.  Anything that is sort of round and is up high is a balloon to him.  So when he sees the security camera bubbles up in the ceiling (at places like Target) he starts reaching and I hear “boon.”  And of course, I can’t get that “balloon.”  I guess it’s a good thing I usually keep some kind of snacks in my purse so I can try to distract him (too bad that doesn’t work as well on his brother any more).

Evan’s birthday.

I know it’s been a couple weeks since his birthday and that I’m coming a little late to the party (ha ha), but I thought I’d post a few pictures and thoughts about my baby turning 3.

I can’t believe it’s been that long already.  He is such a joy to have.  Although it took Jonny and I a long time to get him, I know that Heavenly Father was saving him for us at just the right time.  He is so smart and inquisitive.  His imagination is so big.  Although his amount of energy often wears me out, it really is fun to watch him run around all over the place.  His memory is amazing.  He’s starting to become his own person, with his own opinions and desires (and he’s not afraid to share them).  And although he picks on his brother a lot, Evan loves him very much and it’s a joy to watch them play together or watch Evan try to teach his little brother something.
